Martha in Hamptons Magazine

Martha is featured on the cover of the new issue of Hamptons Magazine with a full feature interview inside that includes recent photos of her home on Lily Pond Lane in East Hampton. In the interview, Martha discusses how she first found the historic 1873 house - the oldest on Lily Pond Lane - and some of the recent changes she has made to the grounds. She also lists her favourite nurseries in the area, some of her favourite activities in the Hamptons and where to find the best local farm stands. Last summer Martha re-shingled the house and replaced the iconic teal trim colour with a tone called "Carton" from her Martha Stewart collection of paints, giving the house a more monochromatic look. She painted all of the outdoor furniture this colour as well. She also removed many of the climbing roses from the porch and has invested in more trees (such as Japanese maples) and foliage plants for the garden.

I rarely have ever disagreed with Martha but I miss the teal trim. Would have liked to have seen some of the roses stay but do understand the need for change and refreshing a facade. Love those teal pots along the porch. I always enjoy your blog posts!

Martha looks amazing!! Great article and really nice pictures. At first I wasn't sure if I like the repaint of Lily Pond without the signature teal, but I think its growing on me. Thanks for sharing Andrew! Hope you're having a great summer! :D

I believe Ms Stewart's taste is always excellent, but when I look at the before and after pictures I do miss the roses . Although I do realize they are seasonal.

Hmm on the cover of Hamptons magazine, new roof, new paint job, no roses-- sounds as if she will put the house up for sale. is the Hamptons really the happening place anymore? Will the company she sold MSLO to pay for renting the house for photo shoots???? She has a college fund to build for her grandchildren but I suppose she could rent the house out to celebrities....

Re the idea of a possible sale.......that is a rather large jump. It isn't as if the house was a fixer-uper. While anything is possible, maybe someone has been watching to much HGTV.

Ha! Somehow I think Martha already has enough socked away to cover college funds for 20 grandchildren---at least I hope so! I do wonder with the sale if she will be able to bear the costs of operating her 3 estates? Does she still have the apartment in the city, too? Too bad there weren't any interior pictures. I miss the teal trim too--the house just looks way too "brown" now!

John,
I believe Andrew added a connection to the most recent Lilly Pond interiors at the begining of the blog entry.
Re the 3 estates, while Martha certainly is not at the same wealth level as when her stock first came out , as I guess, there is little reason for her to clip coupons or us to take up a collection!

Martha has no plans to sell Lily Pond. The renovation and garden redesign happened over a year ago and she has entertained there frequently. She does still have her Fifth Ave apartment as well.

Not loving the new paint job either! The turquoise really popped against the grey shingles. It looks pretty blah now.
