Darcy Miller's Incredible Home

While I was flipping through the pages of the February issue of Architectural Digest I was thrilled to come upon photographs of Darcy Miller-Nussbaum's apartment in New York City. Darcy is the editorial director of Martha Stewart Weddings and lives in Manhattan with her husband Andrew, a lawyer, and their three daughters. I have always wondered what Darcy's home looks like, imagining it to be beautiful and modern and bright - and kid-friendly! I'm pleased to say that the images far exceeded my expectations! Darcy's architect, David Mann, converted a rundown duplex in the Upper East Side into a sparkling, glamorous jewel of a place that still makes room for the girls. Below are some of the photographs by Nikolas Koenig. To read the full article and see more photos, click here or buy the issue, which is on newsstands now.

Its a beautiful apartment but seems so sterile for children, maybe it just looks that way for the photographs. I love the kitchen.

Andrew,

What are your thoughts on Architectural Digest with Margaret Russell at the helm? Also, if you read it, what do you think of Elle Decor with Michael Boodro?

I want to subscribe to one and I would love to read your critique of each.

Thanks.

To be honest, I prefer Elle Decor under Michael Boodro and I prefer that magazine to Architectural Digest. Since he took over, it's improved substantially. Conversely, I think AD has lost a lot of its cachet since Russell took over. It doesn't have the authority it once did and the writing has slipped a great deal: typos everywhere. I miss Paige. With Elle Decor you're guaranteed to get a great mix of styles that fit different budgets, with a more modern/youthful approach to decorating. (The photography in both magazines is great.) I occasionally pick up AD if there is an article that interests me or a series of photos I can't live without but I'm more consistently impressed by Elle Decor these days. Hope that helps!

I have to agree with Pru... it does look rather "sterile" but I've learned that styling for a magazine shoot usually does not reflect the 'day to day.' It is a beautiful space.

Looks too pretty to live in, honestly!

It's very 1930s, which I love. Restrained glamour.

It was not credited in the article, but the rug in the children's playroom was my Cluster rug. It was a fun collaboration with Darcy Miller and David Mann. www.judyrosstextiles.com

Typical Architectural approach. Looks good until you break it down. Easy chairs good for about 15 minutes before your back gives out. All is fine unless you have more than three people and they all need to be trim and fit. Lifestyles of the rich and not very savvy!
