Martha's 2013 Book Calendar

I wanted to create a little 2013 calendar for collectors of Martha's books since there are several fun releases in the pipeline from Martha's publisher, Clarkson Potter. This year, there are four books on offer (so far) and each one will end up on my bookshelf. I don't have all of Martha's books. (I cannot tell a lie.) I collect the ones that I feel best suit my life and my interests. Since I am not an advanced or prolific cook or baker, I only have seven of the dozens of cookbooks she has written over the years. I have her 'classics' of course, such as Entertaining, Gardening Month By Month, New Old House, Martha Stewart's Wedding Cakes and Martha's Entertaining. These books define what I love most about Martha: the drive for aesthetic excellence and the realization of inspiring ideas. Below is a list of the books Martha will release in 2013 with their release dates. Each of these can be pre-ordered at Amazon.com, or you can simply mark the release dates on your calendar if you'd rather pick up the books at your favourite local book store, as I usually do.

Above, left, is the cover of the upcoming book on Martha's crafts for kids with sample pages from the book on the right. I don't have kids but I will buy this book for its layout and design - something I have always admired about Martha's published material.

Martha is green; she recycles, repackages, repositions content in a way most do not realize they are throwing good money after bad. My collection has grown thru second hand book stores --I am following her footsteps, shopping a estate sales! at this point I cannot afford to purchased brand new books and they can't afford to send you books free! Who will win in Macys vs JCP???

Everyone has already lost, in my opinion.

I have begun to wonder if the brand is selling itself out. So many books and haven't there been a couple of craft books already. Also, we have the beautiful Baking book, do we now need a cake book to go with the cupcake book. As none of the shops sell the books in the UK (or, are not available quickly upon release) I buy from Amazon, but I think I will hold off on these titles.

I agree with you, Andrew. Everyone loses when there is litigation of this sort. It's bad PR for all parties involved and unfortunately, little 'details' emerge that the public is probably better off not knowing. In all court cases, it becomes a battle of slaughtering reputations to make the other side more "believable." We can only hope that through it all, there will be gains for Macy's, Martha, and JCP.
On a totally unrelated note.. but I'll take the opportunity to share.. on the investor relations call yesterday, they announced that advertisers were notified that Living will be reduced to 10 issues a year, instead of the original change to 11. I would venture to guess (nothing confirmed) that they may combine the Jan/Feb issue or combine the December/Jan issues again. I'm okay with that.. less frequency, better quality? xo

Kenn, in the MSLO media kit (available at MS.com near the bottom of the page) they announce that the July/August issues will be combined into one this year. And I think you're probably right about the December/January combination, although it wasn't listed in the media kit. Pru, the cakes book is the one I'm most excited for, as well as the "good long life" book, which is written by Martha. I have so many relatives in my family rapidly approaching old age. I'm looking for some good advice in that arena!

Wow beautiful and interesting list of books, I already have Meatless and love it. Thank you Andrew, I went to Amazon and pre ordered the others. I can't wait till they come out, additional books to my Martha Stewart Library, Love!

PS Andrew any news about Alexis's blog she hasn't posted since December :(

Rowaidaa, I'm sure Alexis is just taking a break from blogging for a while.

Is it really a book written by Martha or just the opening paragraph followed by lots of what doctors have said? I have parents who are getting older and a grandfather who is extremely old so I am interested in the topic, but the brand is beginning to bore me and I never thought I would say that.
