No Martha Stewart fan will be able to resist the newest special Halloween issue from Martha Stewart Living, which will be out on September 3rd. I actually found a copy at a specialty magazine store in downtown Toronto and snapped it up right away. Martha graces the cover, dressed as the Fairy GrandMartha - a persona no doubt inspired by her favourite role as the doting grandmother of two! Inside the magazine you'll find more than 125 ideas to help you celebrate the spooky day, from costume ideas to pumpkin carving tips to delicious treats, such as pumpkin-chocolate whoopie pies, black-licorice creme brulé and rocky road brownie bites! Many of the ideas are completely original to this issue - never before published - which is very nice to see. There is a lot of new content, mixed with some of Martha's Halloween classics. You'll also notice the use of the new Martha Stewart logo above the title. Click here to see a slideshow of Martha getting into costume, courtesy of People magazine.
The magazine is divided into chapters with titles that start with the letters "in" (Inspiring, Infested, Intense, Insatiable and "Incroyable", which is French for Incredible.) I love these France-inspired costumes in the Halloween issue. There is a whole gallery of them. Many of them were made for Bette Midler's Halloween gala last year, which benefited the New York Restoration Project. The costumes were inspired by the French poem "Une Saison en Enfer" (A Season In Hell) by French writer Arthur Rimbaud.
Hi Andrew,
ReplyDeleteWow! She looks amazing, can't wait to see this issue
Love!
I love the cover! Target usually puts new issues out a bit early so I'll check tomorrow to see if I can find it! SO nice to have a special issue again!
ReplyDeleteWell, I love everything Martha Stewart, but isn´t this magazine just another Halloween issue full of previously publish ideas? I hope not, please tell us...
ReplyDeleteHeidi, you'll be pleased to hear that it is almmost all NEW material! There is very little reprinted material. Great new costumes, new recipes, new pumpkin-carving ideas. I'm very pleased with it.
ReplyDeleteYou just made me one happy girl! Now I'm really looking forward to Fall! Martha looks stunning too!
ReplyDeleteI picked it up at Target today and I can confirm there is lots of new material. Another great issue for the collection!

ReplyDeleteJust read that it is going to be available for the iPad!
ReplyDeleteShe always does such a good job. Looking forward to more of her great ideas. I already have my theme picked out. Nephilims vs Demons based on the popular middle grade novel, Mason Davis and the Rise of the Storm Maker. Menu is a snap - junk food since both nephilims and demons like sugar. Costumes are even easier - hoodies, rubber bracelets, weapons, and junior ranger badges. Outside decorations graveyard with skeleton hands rising from the ground clutching weapons. Inside decorations still working on that since blending angelic and demonic elements is proving a bit off a challenge. That is why I'm so excitted about Martha's idea this year. I think she will have some good ideas. I can't wait for Halloween!
ReplyDeleteDear Andrew,
ReplyDeleteI just got hold of my issue and it is indeed great. I have a question: on her letter to the readers, Martha writes that this is the eight Halloween special magazine. Is that so, do you know? I am an avid collector, and know only of seven-which I own, of corse, lol.
Yes, Heidi, this is the seventh. There was one issue with a double cover - maybe she miscounted! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Andrew!
