Martha's Vibrant Summer Serveware at Macy's

Among the many collections of antique silverware, dinnerware, linens and napkins that Martha inherited when she purchased Skylands in 1997 (Edsel Ford's former summer home in Maine) was a grouping of vintage ceramic serveware from the 1940s and '50's shaped like fruits: pitchers, jam jars and serving trays among them. These were used to serve lemonade, jams and other fruity offerings to guests during the summer months. Martha was so taken by their charm that she commissioned a new line of figural serveware for the Martha Stewart Collection at Macy's, based on the designs of her originals. I am completely smitten by each of the designs! I love the vivid colours, the whimsical details and the attractive luster. The figural serveware is made of dolomite and comes in several fruity motifs, including lemon, apple, orange and strawberry. The line is currently on promotion at Macys.com with an additional 15% off.

Above: Four fruit-themed sets. Clockwise: A lemon cookie jar, mug and lemon salt-&-pepper shakers; An apple cookie jar, mug, and apple salt-&-pepper shakers; An orange pitcher, mug and marmalade jar with a ceramic spoon; A strawberry pitcher, mug and jam jar with a ceramic spoon. Charming relief details include leaves, flowers and the occasional ladybug or dragon fly. Hand wash.
I love these beverage dispensers! Each one comes with a nine-inch metal stand and holds approximately 1.5 gallons. The lids on each design make for easy refills.
There are also cute little jam spreading knives in the lemon and strawberry motifs, shown here with a closer look at the salt-&-pepper shakers.

  1. My goodness..I love most things Martha, but these are not my cup of tea. They seem so far from her usual aesthetic, yes? (Not that straying is a bad thing all of the time!)
